Bailey Dog visits the Bayou

A story about triathlons, as told by Bailey McDoggell.

Mom and Aunt Kasten made me get up really early on Saturday. They had stuff all in bags so it wasn't that bad. I was afraid they'd leave me behind.

I thought it was strange when we drove to Mom's office. Those annoying felines were there; and scared of me. Can you believe they think I'd deign to mess with them? Aunt Kasten spent a lot of time talking to some people who usually aren't at her office ... like Uncle Justin and that Glen guy who has the same name as our new brother -- Eddy.

Gosh, then we went potty outside and before you know it, I had to wear my outside clothes and we were going somewhere in Mom's new traveling crate.

Mom was in a super hurry, but when they stopped the second time they came back to the car with bbq ribs and brisket. Yummmm--mmmy! I used to have to suffer when they ate in the car, but Aunt Kasten is soooooo nice. She must have influenced mom to let me have the bones right away. Oh God, were they good.

Finally, we got where Mom was going. She was really relieved, I think. She got a big bag of stuff and sat in the sun looking through it. Aunt Kasten and I said, "let's go already." So we went and found the Hotel. Mom got a cheap hotel and teh first room stunk. It was also really warm. The A/C was broken... So after she talked to these women who were really hard to understand, we got a new room and I got to hang out on the bed and relax.

Mom thought Aunt Kasten needed to know where everything was, so she took us to the park and we went to dinner. Well, they didn't let me come to dinner. But they brought me more snacks.

Then, all of a sudden it was Sunday morning and oh my God, was it sudden... Like before you know it Mom wanted us to all get up and get going. Maybe she was right, after they stopped for coffee, our traveling crate could only go very slowly because there were so many other traveling crates on the road.

Mom jumped out of the car and left Aunt Kasten to me. She took her bags and her bike. She disappeared to the transition area and we came later to find her. It was fun. The park had sandy beaches and a really warm bayou for me to play in. There were lots of pine trees for shade. And they played music. There weren't too many pesky dogs who wanted to steal part of my attention. And Aunt Kasten only made me walk back to the car once... but that was because Mom forgot her timing chip.

We didn't see mom for a long time. She went swimming with all those other people and came out of the water looking tired. She put on her bike stuff and rode away. Then we talked to lots of friendly people who thought I was extra super beautiful, of course. Mom finally got back. And an amublance was following her. They gave her some yellow paper. After that, she didn't go running.

Mom must not have been feeling well. She didn't eat her chicken (I benefitted from that, too) and she decided to leave right away. But she couldn't walk up the hill with her bike and her bag. So Aunt Kasten and I went to get the traveling crate.

Aunt Kasten met some lawyer guy who she's doing business with. Mom agreed that he was totally hot, but totally married. So what good was Aunt Kasten anyway... Mom isn't looking for business partners.

We didn't drive as fast on the way home, and I wanted to stop so I told them I had to pee bad. At a cemetery I took my que and went running around for 20 minutes until Mom brought the travel crate up right next to me and I had to get in.

Then, I rested my head until we got home. It was cool in the house and Mom and Aunt Kasten vacuumed up the hair. I went outside to play with my brothers and sisters. I told them that yummy smell was bayou water. Something none of them has every smelled before. They were so jealous. I didn't tell them about the bones, tho. I didn't want to make them feel bad for having to stay home.

Well, that's how I spent my summer vacation. Oh, and Mom feels better now. She's been riding in the woods on her Mt. Bike instead.
