Chloe is watching TV. Or what she must think is TV. She is watching as the cursor moves across the screen. I don't think she's learned to read yet. But she senses something. Must be cat intuition that tells her I am talking about her right in front of her ears and she can't hear me. Wonder if she'll get a complex?

Ever wonder what happens to little children who face no losses? Sometimes I wonder. I think that maybe if your parents get a divorce or you see death from influenza or there's a war or something, then maybe you grow up realizing what real loss is. Maybe then you have some sort of perspective. Maybe then you don't have to give over so much of your life's energy to sentimentality and mourning. Or obsessing about your own character weaknesses.

Chloe quickly becomes a malconent when the "TV gets boring. She demands scritches. The only way to keep fingers on the keyboard at times like this is to scritch her more than she wants. Then, she decides she isn't interested in attention after all. 'Course she just went and scorched her tail on my desk lamp. Which makes it stink so badly in here neither of us really want to stick around.

I began giving Davis his summer haircut. He does not like to hold still very much. Maybe I should try benadryl first and then shaving. Anyway, that dog has a shitload of hair. And right now he's sporting a reverse-poodle cut. It's actually quite funny. In fact, it actually cracks me up. And it's not a crack up easily kind of day.

Anyone want to buy me a new, fancy patio table for my birthday? No? Didn't think so. I'll begin checking the thrift and antique stores -- maybe a garage sale or two. No need for one, mind you... course if I had a dining room set I wouldn't have to serve my guests on a plastic camping table.

I should find some time to get the camping stuff organzied, by the by. I'll need it this weekend.

I was thinking last night, that I had done an awful lot of work and didn't know if I'd really accomplished anything. I've got the perfect front lawn. A damn nice back lawn. Weed-free, mulched beds, fantasticly lush herbs. Four or five new rose bushes - depending on how many of the ones in the back survive, great looking flower beds, a deck, a patio and a nice bit of visual landscaping between the rocks and the back lawn.
And yet:
Radient heat barrier for the attic.
Insulation for the new paint on the West wall.
Two, or more likely six new ornamental and fruit trees.
Fill dirt.
Sod.
Hot tub cladding.
Exterior electrical outlets.
Plumbing for new hose bibs.
$10,000 for new windows
$500 for an exhaust fan over the stove
$300 for a ceiling fan in the kitchen
Water heater insulating blanket
Rental for the pressure washer to clean the deck.
Stain for the deck, gate and shed.
Cedar Shingles for the deck room.
Framing materials for the shed's windows and A/C unit.
