Secrets of making dessert.

This is absolutely my favorite time of year. It's 57 degrees outside and I am backing a cheesecake while I contemplate my job search and the watering of the newly planted fruit trees. The sun cuts the sky at just the right angle. The light is soft and warm. Trees are still green, but beginning to drop their leaves.
This is the time of year when I don't sweat while blow-drying my hair despite the A/C running at full blast. It's the time of year when I take a jacket to a picnic, instead of to the movie theater. And it's the time of year when I can work straight through the afternoon without falling asleep or desperately trying to keep still to avoid the exhausting heat.
So I am making a cheesecake and the phone rings and it's Bildo Baggins. He wants me to know that he can't make the Hash Halloween Party on Friday because he has to fly to Vegas. His son's band is playing for three different record labels. Almost famous, I guess. A part of the American Dream so ubiquitous that we have a movie by that name. I have never heard him play... but Bill thinks they're great and he's been wanting to change jobs and be a roadie for years... more power to them and good luck. Me? I'll be going to Wanker's to wear my fairy costume and drink copiously.
Mark won't be going to the Halloween Party. He's not into parties. He hardly likes Hashing any more... but will do it for me. Anyway, he's not going but he was here last night for the neighbors. He was brilliant. Polite, attentive, sexy and not the least bit concerned about anything. Stacey came over to borrow the bike and stayed for a while. Amy and she and I talked while Mark washed dishes... it was fun. And then I slept.
When I got up I remembered that I had to meet Jorge for lunch. We met at motopia... awesome place. Great Salad. And we chatted a lot. He's such a good spirit. Somehow in the conversation it came up that I really wanted a scooter but that first I needed new windows. John Henning once told me that it would cost me 600-800 a window. 11 Windows... So somewhere between 6600 and 8800 to get the house done. I am thinking that would make a bigger difference in my living here than anything else I could do... but then what do I know... I just never ever saw this much dust in Coppell.
OK... well, we have cheesecake.
More later.
