Healthcare is almost as stressful in this country as being in ill health.
I have some ongoing health issues. Celiac Disease is the underlying cause. A piss-poor attitude might be involved at this point, too. Whatever.
So I push through a lot of that and I do OK. And then, bam! I'm dropped from a climb at the gym.
As with any situation that involves impact at speed, I have soreness that seems to be more debilitating as the weeks go on. I took the muscle relaxers at first, but they leave me drugged and groggy. Not so good for productivity at work. So, I am sorta spiraling.
I have a great doctor and I can't afford her. She doesn't take insurance and it costs $160 a visit to see her. With something as on-going as spinal manipulation, that equates to a visit a week or $640 a month. Not doable.
So, I sought out another doctor, who was also highly recommended. She and I spoke at length and yesterday I called. Her first appointment was $160 and follow-ups were much less. But then, as I was making the appointment, something wonderful occured to me.
I now have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. And they pay for Chiropractic care. I am so very happy.
But here's the rub. Americans are making decisions about where they are employed based on the quality of the healthcare insurance they are offered. You should never have to choose between losing your ability to see the right doctor as often as you need and doing a job you don't neccessarily like. That's horrible.
Right now, however, I am very happy. And I should be feeling a lot better very soon.
