I get so frustrated with people ....
They are not necessarily demanding or aggressive. They just make things complicated. If you are offered a job you really, really want and the company needs you right away and you are sensing that you've already asked too much -- why try to convolute the situation with half days and O.T. and 100s of other questions. Just show up on your first day and expect that all the needed paperwork will be supplied and all the necessary training will be given.
If you are out of toner on your fax machine or your computer is so old that it can't accept PDF forms it is your responsiblity to figure out how to receive the forms you need. You can go to Kinkos. You can ask a friend to receive them. You can drive down here to get them. You can wait for them in the mail and choose to get your first check a week late. It's not that difficult. But you cannot tell me we've waited until the last minute to provide you with the forms. That, I won't take.
Oh, and if you are told that someone will come by on your first day at a new job to have you fill out employment paperwork, and if this isn't your first rodeo, then bring all your identification. All of it. We can't pay you until we've seen your Social Security Card. No, it's not us being unreasonable. It's that $10,000 fine the government imposes.
While I'm at it, consider this.... you get an email from a recruiter who has a job your are interested in. It says to email back with your resume. You call instead. You get voicemail because said recruiter is doing another interview. She happens to have three interviews all after lunch. You finally go ahead and send the email she requested in the first place. Then you leave town.
Upon your return, you are told the criteria of the job have changed. Do not insult, verbally abuse or otherwise piss-off the woman who has the power to get you a job. You clearly don't know how the process works. In your nice little reality, no one changes her mind. But the rest of us deal with change every day. So take your pills and ask yourself: Is there a reason I am unemployed?
