Yesterday I ventured forth to use some of the Christmas cards I received to purchase the things that would have been ridiculously expensive to mail. I found myself feeling strangely drawn to the men and women working the registers and stocking the shelves. Whereas I might have previously become annoyed at the slightest inconvenience or delay, I now noticed how some were happy and smiled. And some were too old to suffer 8 hours on foot. And some were serious and determined, a fact that I find remarkable when you consider what they earn and what they endure.
So the lesson of this holiday season is gratitude to all those who show up every day to make it easier for you to find and buy what you need.
And thanks to Nordstrom, for letting me walk in their shoes for a while.
